Huat Koay, Fei Fei and Tham Ciak. We all love food so much that most of the time, our conversation revolves around food wherever we go.

We do share experiences and places we visits with our families and nice eating places among one another. After that, we will list down places that we should go and review together as PenangTuaPui.

Last week, Fei Fei’s aunt brought some pancakes during her visit to his home. The usual pancake we normally have are like the one featured in Anson Road Ban Chang Kueh or the bigger type that found in Pulau Tikus market.

This one though is much smaller than both of them that we think it is suitable to be XS size.

Guan Pancake or Apong Guan as shown in the sign, is located at Burmah Road. This stall was featured on NST, January 2 this year on Travel Section as you can see from newspaper cutting displayed on the left side of the stall.

It had also been featured in Ho Ciak TV series, no wonder the owner was smiling all the way throughout the photo shoot out.

Despite the small size, this pancake is quite thick relatively given its size. Inside the pancake, you will get slices of banana, teaspoon of corn and also grated coconut. The pancake tasted quite soft and fragrant, not too thick with flour.

Tham Ciak and Fei Fei like this pancake but Huat Koay said the pancake tasted weird because it included grated coconut inside. He preferred to have his pancake without them.

From certain angle, Tham Ciak said the pancake looks like Doraemon’s favorite pancake, dorayaki, mainly because of the protruding middle.

One thing we observed was there were people who called in to make their order and collect them later. Guan told us that these were his regulars who prefer not to wait but instead make order in advance, especially when the queue was long.

Each piece of Apong cost RM0.30 and the stall operates from 9am till 9 pm daily except Sunday.

When I first had this apong, it merely cost me RM1.00 for ten pieces...now it cost so much more but I still love his apong :)

I usually have mine without the jagung...somehow the taste cover the aroma of the apong.

I've tasted the same kind of pancake at New Lane. Besides banana, inside the pancake you can opt for grated coconut too. It's yummy. And it also has pandam flavour pancake. Yummy.
I must go try this Apong Guan. hehe.

I love apong compared to ban chen kuih cuz apong is more fragrant with grated coconut. Normally I buy from the van outside Teluk Bayan. RM1 for 3 pcs.

As usual, many thanks for the wonderful pictures. You guys are great with it comes to the photography part. As for the apongs, I somewhat find Ah Guan's apong a bit over rated. Perhaps the last time I stopped over at his stall I hentam 30 apongs. Probably suffered from the 'jelak' syndrome. Additionally, the waiting was agonising.

OMG! I LOVE YOU! I tried this apom once and I have no idea the name of the place I ate from. I only remember the uncle, the stall, and maybe his wife and family helping out. I lined up to buy 10 of those.. took it back to the coffee shop opposite to eat. I ended up lining up again to buy another 10.. when i bought them, i went straight back behind the line to line up again.. by the time i reach the front of the line.. i finished my 10 apom. This is the bestest apom ever!!

Glad to you readers find this posting interesting..

For the photo snapping and editing, we try our best to maintain the originality of the pix(of course, some touch ups included)so that we can tell better stories to readers. Our aim is promote Penang food as a whole, thus we'll definitely give credits where it's due...

Preference wise, we have to stress it's all up to individuals.. Some of you like it, some don't as shown in the comments above. just like three of us, even though PenangTuaPui like to eat.. only Huat Koay find this stall doesn't suit his taste as he prefers the apong without coconut. Nvm, Fei Fei & Tham Ciak like them.. so let's go makan apong~!! :D

As for the long queue, you can try to call the owner earlier to make your bookings, like some did.

But then, this is already a famous stall and like many famous stalls, waiting time can be long and frustrating.. You'll have to make the call yourself whether it's worth waiting or buy elsewhere :)

I never had luck with Apong Guan. Just days before I came to Selangor.. I wanted to write a post about his apong.. Went twice..

    1st time, he didn't open.
2nd time, he did open but had a back order of 50 pieces.. he told me need to wait 2 hours.. DAMN THAT GUY who ordered 50 freaking pieces!!! I hate you!! I'll never get to try his apong *cries*

  23. Poh Hon |

50 pieces or 500 pieces? You are kidding me la, 2 hours for 50 pieces... this is the original Apong, those who doesn't like it is their loss... remember it used to be 20 cents per piece I always buy 10 pieces take home and enjoy

ho kai siao .. this one really keng
always buy 10 and share with colleagues
when i was working in pulau tikus

maybe 50 pcs before vkeong's order and there could be few orders prior to that. This stall really need to queue a while if you go during peak time. But then, most of the time we went also peak time....What to do, want to eat the apong mah..
